Museum Opening - Monnaie de Paris - Grayson Perry - Oct. 19, 2018 - February 2, 2019
The Monnaie de Paris is organising the first major solo exhibition in France by the celebrated British artist Grayson Perry (born 1960, lives in London). Perry’s works in traditional materials such as ceramics, bronze, cast iron, printmaking and tapestry, offer an ironic and darkly humorous look at universal topics such as identity, gender, class, religion and sexuality.

Perry’s honest and candid unpacking of his own identity is part of what drives his appeal far beyond the confines of the art world. Autobiographical references – to the artist’s childhood, his family and his transvestite alter ego Claire – can be read in tandem with questions about décor and decorum, class and taste, and the status of the artist versus that of the artisan.

Museum Opening - Mamco - Geneva
Mai-Thu Perret Retrospective - 10.10.18 - 3.2.19
October 08, 2018
In recent years, Mai-Thu Perret ‘s work has featured in large-scale exhibitions at institutions such as SFMOMA in San Francisco, the Renaissance Society in Chicago, the Chisenhale Gallery in London, the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, the Kunsthaus in Araau, the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, and the Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, but this is her first major exhibition at MAMCO, following her nomination for the Manor Prize in 2011: a singular omission for an artist whose distinctive practice embraces disciplines from sculpture to film, ceramics and performance, referencing multiple sources from 20th-century avant-garde movements to Eastern philosophies, and blending methodologies to draw on her literary studies and her experience as a curator.

Museum Exhibits - Hayward Gallery - London
"Shape Shifters" 26 Sep. 2018 - 6 Jan. 2019
This major group exhibition brings together sculptures and installations that explore perception and space.
Featuring 20 artists and spanning a period of roughly 50 years, the exhibition includes innovative, minimalist sculpture from the 1960s as well as recent works that extend the legacy of this ‘optical’ minimalism in different ways. It also features new commissions that have been made in response to the architecture of the Hayward Gallery.
Many of the artworks in this exhibition are constructed from translucent materials such as glass, acrylic and polyester resins. Others involve the use of reflective materials, including stainless steel, polished bronze and, in one case, engine oil. Luscious and seductive – and often demonstrating huge technical accomplishment – these objects act as optical devices that enable us to see our surroundings in new and unexpected ways. In bringing together artworks that activate our perception of Hayward’s unique building, Space Shiftersprovides a dramatic and fitting conclusion to the gallery’s 50th anniversary year.

"Fire&Clay": Sylvie Auvray, Shio Kusaka, Takuro Kuwata, Grant Levy-Lucero, Ron Nagle, Sterling Ruby, Peter Voulkos, Betty Woodman
September 24, 2018
Gagosian is pleased to present Fire and Clay, a group exhibition of modern and contemporary artists working with the form of the ceramic vessel. Featuring Sylvie Auvray, Shio Kusaka, Takuro Kuwata, Grant Levy-Lucero, Ron Nagle, Sterling Ruby, Peter Voulkos, and Betty Woodman, the exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the independent curator Fabienne Stephan.

From Mayan to ancient Greek pottery, African clay art to the Arts and Crafts movement in England and the United States, ceramic traditions have long united utility and artistry while shedding light on the needs and cultural values of civilizations. Fire and Clay explores the evolution of the ceramic vessel in art from the mid-twentieth century and the California Clay Movement up to the innovative approaches of the present moment.
