Stability, Selectivity & the Digital Shift

Looking at the 2024 art market data, we get a picture of a landscape shaped by cautious optimism, evolving buyer behavior, and digital innovation.

🟩 Market Stabilization & Recovery

According to the Art Basel UBS Report 2025 and the Artsy Report 2025, 2024 marked a year of recovery following economic volatility. While auction figures remained below their peak, dealer sales remained steady—especially in the mid-market range—and galleries showed resilience through diversification and digital expansion.

🟩 Digital Strategies on the Rise

Both reports confirm the growing centrality of digital platforms.

  • 43% of galleries plan to increase online sales focus.

  • 76% of galleries now offer artworks online.

  • 72% reported online sales that matched or exceeded 2023 levels.

  • Among collectors under 37, 71% bought art online last year, making this an essential target demographic.

🟩 Transparency: Still a Barrier

Lack of transparency is cited as a major friction point:

  • 69% of collectors say it has prevented them from purchasing.

  • Only 17% feel the art market caters “very well” to their needs.

  • Collectors are calling for more visibility on prices and provenance—yet fewer than half of galleries publish prices for all works.

🟩 A Shift Toward Emerging Artists

  • 72% of collectors are drawn to emerging artists, citing affordability and discovery appeal.

  • Most purchases fall in the under €5,000 bracket.

  • Galleries are responding: 51% say emerging artists are now central to their business model.

🟩 Economic Pressures & Selective Buying

  • Auction sales dropped 34% in 2024 (Artprice).

  • 30% of collectors say they are now more selective; only 7% are buying more art.

  • 75% of galleries cite economic uncertainty as their biggest challenge.

🟩 Conclusion

The art market in 2025 is more connected yet more selective. Younger collectors, digital access, and demand for transparency are reshaping how galleries operate. Institutions and professionals who prioritize trust, access, and relevance will remain best positioned in a market that values connection just as much as curation.

The Art Market can be daunting to navigate, benefit from our expertise to enjoy buying art, safely and in total transparency.
